The Townsend's Visit

The Townsend family visited us during the last week of October, and stayed for several days. We had an absolutely wonderful time!
`

We roasted hot dogs around the fire pit one night...
`

....and talked! :-) [You can be pretty sure of that part. When you get the Townsends and Stevens together, you get to hear many lively and laughy conversations (and serious ones, too)--with plenty of good brotherly teasing sandwiched between.] ;-)
`

Though almost every single picture in this post is of us playing games, we actually did a lot of other things as well. All those still in school had to get 4 hours of schoolwork done each day. And there was clean-up and cooking, and we also watched a video together.
`
In the picture above, we were playing "Swap"--one of the most fun games ever! :-) (Is that a little biased?) ;-)
`

And the classic: "Pit". But since it was late at night and we didn't want to be too noisy (we've had experience in that department, let me assure you) ;-) we decided to show how many cards we wanted to trade by holding up our fingers with the appropriate number.

"Finally! Someone else is trading my number!"

Some of the girls playing Spoons (with Paul and Philip, who were on the other side of the table).

Meanwhile, Maddie and Timmy enjoyed trading horses.

We had a big game of Spoons on Tuesday night.

Daddy captured a very epic "Swap" moment. :-)

After Prayer Meeting on Wednesday night we played Catch Phrase in the garage.

Something was evidently most hilarious. I think it was right after Paul tried to explain "eye candy", and he said it had something to do with gum and your vision viewers.

"It's something far away...far-reaching...think distance here." ;-)

And now...of course...on to Round Robin!

Samantha and Philip in the final show-down. The Townsend girls won the majority of the games, I think.

We had quite a crowd, especially after Jonathan and Andrew joined us after work. (Kyle comes home from school in the mid-afternoon.)

Kyle in the penalty box. ;-)

On Thursday night Mr. Townsend came to pick up his family. At dinnertime, everybody managed to squeeze into their spots around the table. Close fellowship! :-)

After dinner we played one of the funniest games on the planet earth. ;-) It has a rather odd-sounding name: "Hodgey Podgey", but let me assure it, it lives up to the name. There's a clapping, snapping rhythm going, and then one person starts the sentence off with a word, such as "the". Then the next person in line has to think up another word that would make sense in a sentence: "girl". Then the next: "walked"...then "to"....etc. You go round and round and reach hilarious, sometimes ridiculous endings!

Sometimes it was interesting trying to keep up with the snapping, clapping rhythm. I had the wrong one going, I think. ;-)

Yep...hilarious endings. :-D

Well, that was a F-U-N week! It was over all too soon.
`
"Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Phil. 4:4-8)

Feast of Harvest 2009

This is a rather late update. ;-) Life has been busy...(especially today!--more on that later). :-)

We celebrated Feast of Harvest 3 weeks ago. It's our annual "Family Vacation". :-)

Grandpa and Grandma Harrison had us over for breakfast that Monday. Afterwards, the boys pruned their orange tree/bushes so that we could use the branches for our booth.

Philip got a nasty wasp sting. :-( Poor fellow.

The guys...hard at work. :-) (Kyle is up in the tree--that's why you can't see him.)

And now...the construction begins!

Philip holding up one of the PVC pipes, so that his side would stay up while Andrew pounded everything together.

The construction manager. ;-)

And then we hung the branches. This year's branch selection was quite different than what we normally have--pine, orange, etc.

And of course we can't break our tradition of playing "Missionary Conquest" every Feast of Harvest.

It can be quite an adventurous game--like being martyred, sent to Bad Stewardship, Financial Opportunities where you can either become a millionare or try to survive without a cent to your name, (though those are the extremes) and Mission Board Hearings--ooh, those can be bad. :-) (Paul even lost a close game because of one of those lovely hearings.) ;-)

Our campfire! :-)

We love roasting hot dogs, eating, talking, and laughing around our fire pit. It's been such a fun blessing from the Lord! :-)

Rebecca snapped this picture of us asleep one early morning. Kyle (his sleeping bag is in the back, at the far left) had to leave for school.

And another campfire one night. We talked for a long time that night as a family--so fun! :-) There's nothing like sitting outside in the cool, fresh night air, talking to your very best friends.
:-)
Hopefully, I'll be doing some more posts in the (very) near future. There's plenty to catch up on! Stay tuned for our next blog post..."The Townsend's Visit!" :-)

Babysitting Fun :-)

Mama and I (Rebecca) just came back from four enjoyable days at the Johnson's. Tom and Katie went on a belated anniversary trip to Idaho, and Mama and I babysat the kiddos. We did lots of fun activities so that they would not miss their daddy and mommy as much, and I think that we succeeded. :-) I took lots of pictures (as I often do :-))...but who can blame me?! :-)

Here are some of the fun things we did...

...read a book about airplanes (this was on Friday morning right after Tom and Katie left for the airport)...

...swung outside...

...rode in the wagon (we were pretending that it was an airplane :-))...

..."did school" (they didn't use their school books, but they colored and cut papers)...

...played with playdough...

...made cut-out cookies (we did that a different day than the playdough)..

...snitched the cookie dough :-)...

...ate the cookies :-) (they were really yummy!)...

...went on lots of walks...

...laughed at Julie's very interesting hat! :-) (Julie found this little baby hat and put it on...she looked hilarious! She looked like she came right out of the '20's :-))...

...fed Ruthie her lunch :-) (Bethy took a try at feeding Ruthie...she loves to be "a little mommy," as she says :-))...

...pretended to be squirrels (the bunkbed was the tree :-))...

...drew pictures...

..."drove" to "church" on Sunday (we had a pretend church set up for the kiddos as we couldn't actually go to church...by the way, that triple stroller is very heavy to push:-))...

...went to "church"...

...took care of our little babies in church :-)...

...got "baptized" (this was all "Pastor" Michael's idea. :-) Michael "baptized" me too :-))...

...made puzzles with "Grandma"...

...had a picnic in the backyard (Michael is praying for the food here...I love how he prays!)...

...played dollies (Bethy loves to play with dolls! One time when we were supposedly taking a nap in her bed, she told me all of her dollies names...there's Marcia, Amy (or Aimee), Julie, and Jeanie. She thought up those names on her own, but I have no idea where she got the name Jeanie! :-) I guess that her original doll name is not nearly as original as the names I thought up for my dolls when I was her age. My dolls were Hippo, Ladybug, and Lulu! :-) I truly have no idea what I was thinking when I named them those names! :-))...

...ate smoothies each evening...

...did a second day of cookie baking to finish up the dough...

...dressed lots of little kiddos :-) (Mama and I that is)...

What a fun, happy time we had with the children! Mama and I also enjoyed the time that we could spend together talking. It's not often that I get Mama all to myself (except for the kiddos) for four whole days! :-)

"And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we do to you, so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints." I Thessalonians 3:12-13

A Little Bit of This, and Little Bit of That...

...and a little bit of everything. ;-)

It's been too long since I've last posted! Rebecca and I have been at the Johnson's house a lot (Katie's been nauseous lately, but for a very good cause!) :-). Another reason that I haven't been posting is because several of us had gotten sick but have now (almost) recovered.

Some of our family are learning Greek! :-) Jonathan, Kyle, Andrew, a group of other people at our church, and I have been going to the class taught by Pastor Steve on Friday nights. That's been keeping me busy, too! :-)

Autumn is here! Yay! :-) It's hard to believe that this year is going by so quickly. But I must confess that I'm glad that summer is over. It's hard to get stuff done when one feels like a baked potato, due to the heat! Thank the Lord for cooler weather. :-) (Although most of today was rather warm, because of the Santa Ana winds.)

Our garden is still producing. We planted more green beans, sugar peas, and squash, (pumpkins for Thanksgiving!) and the parsley is doing very well.

We enjoyed the corn from our garden. ;-) I'm so thankful to the Lord for His blessings--like homegrown corn, cold weather (hopefully soon :-) and my precious family! :-) (Among many other things.)

We've been trying to stay on schedule--or something that resembles that. :-) What has everyone been up to this week? Rebecca is at Tom and Katie's for the week until she and I trade on Sunday; the little boys have been plugging away at their school (and other things as well); ;-) Kyle has been working on tiling and grouting and trellising the front porch (and hopefully I can get pictures up soon of the wonderful finished product); Daddy, Jonathan, and Andrew have been going in to work every day; and Mama has been doing a host of "mommie jobs". I've also been doing an assortment of things--which description leaves you very enlightened, I'm sure. ;-)

Lord willing, we're planning on taking a family vacation in two weeks--a camping trip! I'm so excited! :-) (I looove camping, and especially with my best friends. :-)

So...Happy October, everyone. I hope you all have a wonderful day, trusting in Jesus! :-) (Aren't you glad that He is sovereign, and that we can trust everything [our fears, worries, and cares] to Him, knowing that He is in control of every situation and has our lives already planned out?! What do we have to fear when we know that all things will work together for good to those who love the Lord?! [Rom. 8:28])

(The verses below are so precious. They are one of my favorite Bible passages--if one can possibly have a favorite. :-)

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee. Trust ye in the LORD forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:" (Isaiah 26:3-4)

Ruthie

Happy 1st Birthday, Ruthie!

You are such a sweet, affectionate little toddler! We love your hugs and bright smiles. You are such a wonderful blessing from Jesus!
We love you so much, little one!!!

Labor Day Church BBQ and Johnson Visit

Last Monday, our church had our annual Labor Day ball game and BBQ. We didn't get any ball game pictures, but we did get ones of the picnic and of playing Ultimate Frisbee afterwards.

"Smile for the camera!"

Mr. Iorga barbecued all the hamburger patties and hot dogs. It was a lot of work! Thank you very much! :-)

Some of us girls.

After the BBQ a lot of us played Ultimate Frisbee...and tired ourselves out! But it was fun.
`
There was an aspect of that day that I have failed to mention so far. Just after we got to the park, Timmy joined the Broken Bone Club. Yep, that's right. He fell for it--and broke his left wrist in the process. It was the very same kind of break that Jonathan got 7 years ago on his right wrist...and had surgery on a few years later. Thankfully, it looks like the doctor was able to set it correctly so that Timmy won't have to have surgery. Just to make sure, the doctor put a splint instead of a cast on his arm so that next week they can see how well it's mending. Then the doctor will put the cast on.
`

He's been very brave about it!
`
The Johnsons came over later that afternoon.
`

Bethany helped Grandma pick corn for dinner.
`

And she helped to husk it, too. :-)

Julie "opened" the corn...as she and Bethany put it. I think it was fun for her to peel back the layers and see the yellow kernels below.

And of course Ruthie wanted to come join the fun--you know, stuffing corn silk and corn cobs in your mouth--sounds very autumnish, doesn't it? ;-)

Aren't they just the cutest little things?! :-)
`
Thank the Lord for His mercy! We don't deserve the many blessings that He showers upon us. And when He does send trials, like Timmy's broken wrist, we know "that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope." (Rom. 5:3b-4) Praise the Lord!

Visit to the Harrisons

I'm late in updating. Sorry, folks. :-)

Two weeks ago we had our annual weekend vacation at Uncle Mark and Aunt Raynell's house. We had such a fun time--talking, swimming, reading, playing games, etc!

Paul barbecued some hot dogs the first day--they were yummy. :-)
`

As the thermometer testifies, it was very hot--perfect swimming weather! :-)
`
On Friday morning, we visited an alpaca farm and mill.

They have cute faces, surrounded by a ring of bushy hair. :-)
`

Inside the mill. It was very hot in there, but we enjoyed the tour!
`

Uncle Mark and the boys playing "Sorry"--a game in which people often aren't very sorry. :-)

And we read... :-) (something that we don't have a chance to do very often).
`

On Saturday we all went down to the ocean. Our three older guys, Aaron and Marcia, and the Townsends joined us.
`

A snapshot of the girls.

The boys had a bocce tournament.
`

Running to see whose ball came the closest to the mark...

We went swimming every day--and very much enjoyed it! It was the perfect weather for swimming--stifling hot. It was very easy to adjust to the water. :-)
`

The boys played some pool before dinner...
`

Saturday was drawing to a close. We all gathered in the living room and watched some old home videos...of another visit to the Harrison's 14 (?) years ago. It's been a special tradition for many years....one which has always been much anticipated and much enjoyed. :-)
`

Time to leave. :-( Thank you SO much for giving us such a fun vacation, Uncle Mark and Aunt Raynell! We love you very much! :-)
